How Tornado Cash works

A user generates a random key (note) and deposits Ether or an ERC20, along with submitting a hash of the note to the Tornado Cash smart contract.
Wait
After depositing, users should wait some amount of time before withdrawing to improve their privacy.
Withdraw
A user submits a proof of having the valid key to one of the notes deposited and the contract transfers Ether or the ERC20 to a specified recipient.
How Tornado Cash Plus+ Achieves Privacy
Tornado Cash improves transaction privacy by breaking the on-chain link between source and destination addresses. It uses multiple wallets and hidden servers that accepts ETH deposits that can be withdrawn by a different address. To preserve privacy a relayer can be used to withdraw to an address with no ETH balance. Whenever ETH is withdrawn by the new address, there is no way to link the withdrawal to the deposit, ensuring privacy.

Is it possible to compromise the system and find out information about depositors?
No, Tornado Cash Plus+ is a decentralized system that runs automatically. The initial developers have no control over it, and the system is designed to be trustless and non-custodial, ensuring that no single entity can access user information.
Do you collect user data?
The Tornado Cash Plus+ protocol does not collect any user data. We do not capture any personal information from our users such as logins, passwords, phone numbers, or addresses. Furthermore, there are no payment logs, sessions, or cookies being stored anywhere on our end, guaranteeing your activity remains private.
What is a relayer?
Relayers are used to withdraw to an account with no ETH balance, which enhances privacy. The relayer sends the withdrawal transaction on your behalf and takes a part of the deposit as compensation (the service itself does not collect any fees). Importantly, the relayer cannot change any withdrawal data, including the recipient address. The Tornado Cash Plus+ initial developers do not control or play any role in relaying transactions; the relay network is independent and run by the community. Can I use Tornado Cash Plus+ for Bitcoin and other blockchains?
Currently, we only support the Ethereum network. However, we are actively working on research and development to add support for more blockchains in the future to extend privacy features across the wider crypto ecosystem.
